CALLING ALL CLIMBERS, ADVENTURE LOVERS, AND PARTY PEOPLE
Join us for the best and only climbing festival in Boulder and do good on top of it. Climbing is the common thread that connects us and brings us together and this festival is the perfect opportunity to celebrate in style with our community. With the money raised we’ll make sure that all of us can keep doing what we love most, climbing, by taking care of the Front Range crags and beyond. Already registered? Friday Evening
6:00 pm-8:30 pm – Adidas/Terrex office – BCF kickoff party
Free beverages, beer, and finger food! Connect with your community and kick off the weekend with good vibes!
Saturday Morning/ Saturday Evening
8am-11am – Morning Run with Eva Krchova — Meet at the BCC office
Start the weekend with a Chautauqua run hosted by our lovely friend, Eva Krchova. This run will consist of a short presentation, warmup, and Chautauqua loop (3 miles in total).
1pm-4pm – Indoor Clinics with local athletes – Movement Boulder, The Spot Boulder, Boulder Rock Club
Hang out with your favorite athletes and learn all the tips and tricks from the masters! Clinics listed below.
Saturday (all day)—Outdoor Climbing Comp: Sign up for our 3rd annual Outdoor Boulder Canyon climbing competition! Once you are done climbing, head over Beach park and submit your comp sheets by 5:30pm
4:30pm-8:30pm –Block Party— Beach Park
The main event of the evening! Join us for games, food, beer, prizes, silent auction, raffle, vendors, dancing and more! Oh, did we mention you get 1 free beverage, beer and free pizza? Bring a picnic blanket and hang out!
4:45pm-5:30pm — Yoga session with Prana at Beach Park
Join Prana at Block Party for some post-climbing stretching and relaxing!
Sunday Morning/ Sunday Evening
8am — 4pm — Outdoor Clinics with Golden Mountain Guides, Denver Mountain Guiding and Colorado Mountain School. Clear Creek Canyon, Boulder Canyon, Flatirons. Meetup location will be emailed out.

3:30pm –Grill out— A-Lodge and Movement Golden
Depending on where your clinic is on Sunday, head over to A-lodge in Boulder Canyon or Movement, Golden, afterwards for some good old grillin’!

Our clinics are taught by the fantastic folks at Denver Mountain Guiding, Golden Mountian Guides and Alpine to the Max.
Equipment Needs
Every clinic participant must bring:
personal climbing gear (helmet, harness, climbing shoes, chalk bag, belay device)
water + snacks and lunch for the day
A backpack to carry your gear
First aid kits, if you have one (optional)
Some clinics also have additional recommended gear needs. It’s okay if you don’t have these items but please bring them if you can.
Indoor clinics (Saturday):
Beginner’s guide to flight/Fear of falling with Kevin Capps (Movement, Boulder)
Art of Projecting with Heather Weidner (Boulder Rock Club)
Board Strong with Kelly Birch (Movement, Boulder)
Training on the Hangboard: Principles and Practices with Peter Beal (Boulder Rock Club)
Intro to Crack Climbing with Jenny Lemonpie (Movement, Boulder)
Boulder strong with Drew Ruana (The Spot, Boulder)
Outdoor Clinics (Sunday):
Essential Bigwall Technical Climbing Skills with Golden Mountain Guides
Harness, helmet, shoes, chalk bag, backpack, personal kit (including belay device, locking carabiners, etc.). Optional: dynamic climbing rope, 6 quickdraws, 6 alpine runners, trad rack, any other bigwall specialty equipment you may have and want to play with. Participants should have some climbing experience, including a solid understanding of traditional climbing, anchoring, and multipitch climbing.
Improvised Rock Rescue Systems with Golden Mountain Guides
Harness, helmet, shoes, chalk bag, backpack, personal kit (including belay device, locking carabiners, etc.). Optional: dynamic climbing rope, 6 quickdraws, 6 alpine runners, trad rack, etc. Participants should have some previous climbing experience, including both top rope and lead experience. A basic working knowledge of knots and hitches, belay techniques, and anchors will help participants get the most out of this course.
Intro to Multi-Pitch Climbing with Denver Mountain Guiding
Required
* Helmet, harness, climbing shoes
* Assisted braking device, like a GriGri
Optional/recommended
* Plaquette style belay/rappel device (if you want to teach this style)
* Prusik cord
* 6 locking carabiners (not including carabiners on belay devices)
* 6 non-locking carabiners
* 2 x 48 inch runners
* 1 x 96 inch runner
* 20 ft cord (optional)
The prerequisite for this course is that you must be able to lead 5.6 sport outside.
Multi-Pitch Rescue Course with Denver Mountain Guiding
Required
* Helmet, harness, climbing shoes
* Assisted braking device, like a GriGri
Optional/recommended
* Plaquette style belay/rappel device (if you want to teach this style)
* Prusik cord
* 6 locking carabiners (not including carabiners on belay devices)
* 6 non-locking carabiners
* 2 x 48 inch runners
* 1 x 96 inch runner
* 20 ft cord (optional)
Prerequisites are that you must have a base knowledge on multi-pitch climbing or have then an intro to multi-pitch climbing course.

What’s the refund policy for the event?
The Backyard Climbing Festival is a fundraising event and weekend passes are non-refundable. You may transfer a clinic spot to another individual. To transfer, please email Development@boulderclimbers.org.
This event will be held rain or shine, and all clinics will have a backup date if there is inclement weather. Saturday evening's party at the BRC will be held regardless!

Is the event kid / family friendly?
Definitely! We have a discounted rate for kids age 6-16, kids 5 and under are free. Many of the games at the BRC on Saturday evening will be super fun for kids. Note, there will be alcohol present at the Beach Park on Saturday evening but excessive drinking will not be tolerated.
